Although the young trainer at my livery yard thought her adaption of your reins was to attach as side reins I was not convinced - so by contacting Debbie again all became clear as to the proper and beneficial way to use the Vienna Reins. • This easy to use and highly adjustable product is a European version of the side rein and is used when lunging.
• The product give the horse the chance to reach towards the contact but also trains them to yeild to the rein and travel in a round outline. 
• It is particularly good for strengthening the horse's back before the weight of the rider is introduced. This makes it ideal for a young horse and also when working animals with back problems.
• Any horse can benefit from working regularly with the Vienna Rein (although you will need a suitable surface on which to lunge) as the rein encourages the animal to stretch, lift and swing through the back.
